Amazon Slashes Hundreds Of Jobs In Cloud Division, A Month After CEO’s Warning To Adapt With AI

Only a few weeks ago CEO Andy Jassy had warned employees to get acquainted with AI. He had also stated how the company would require fewer employees as Amazon continues to deploy AI in its operations.

The ecommerce giant has now reportedly slashed hundreds of jobs from its cloud unit AWS. The company allegedly had also been offshoring and restructuring corporate roles for a while. Per reports, the worst impacted roles involve training, support, analytics, GTM specialists, and WWSO. Per a CNBC report with access to internal memo, the terminated staff were informed of the layoff on Thursday morning.

Per Reuters some staff informed they were intimated of the layoff via mail and have since been withheld from system access. The exact figure of impacted employees is not known as of now.

Per an Amazon spokesperson

We’ve made the difficult business decision to eliminate some roles across particular teams in AWS. These decisions are necessary as we continue to invest, hire, and optimise resources to deliver innovation for our customers.”
