Alphabet and Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, has sold $5.15 million worth of stocks under the trading plan as adopted on December 02, 2024.
Per the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings on April 2, 2025, Pichai sold Class C capital stocks that are worth between $157.23 and $159.97 per share. The sales were done under the Rule 10b5-1 Trading Plan set up last year by the CEO himself. It allows the corporate insiders to sell shares at a predetermined period, thereby not getting accused of insider trading. Per the end-of-year regulatory filing by Google, last year Sundar Pichai and the Pichai Family Foundation had adopted a trading plan to sell 876,000 class C shares. The Pichai Family Foundation is led by Sundar Pichai and his wife, Anjali Pichai.
The sale of stocks comes in the wake of weakening shares of the search engine giant. Alphabet’s valuation has seen a 20% y-t-d (year-to-date) decline in 2025. The stocks are also at a 52-week low at about $147. The sluggish shares are further dampened by Trump’s ongoing tariff wars that have not spared even an island inhabited only by penguins! The Monday market mayhem yesterday has created panic and paranoia about impending recession aptly dubbed ‘Trumpcession.’
Meanwhile, after the sales of the stocks, Sundar Pichai possesses 227,560 shares of Class A Common Stock and 224,169 Class C Google Stock Units. Pichai also holds 2,717,696 Alphabet shares.
