According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Apple Inc. is in the process of developing its chip dedicated to running artificial intelligence (AI) tools in data centres. However, it remains uncertain whether this semiconductor will eventually be deployed.

Apple’s initiative builds upon its prior endeavours in creating in-house chips, which currently power its iPhones, Macs, and other devices. The server project is internally referred to as ACDC within the company.

Following this revelation, Apple’s shares surged by as much as 1.2% in late trading on Monday. Despite this, they had experienced a 5.6% decline earlier in the year. The Cupertino-based company has not yet provided any official comment on the matter.

Apple has been striving to catch up with its technological counterparts in the field of generative AI, essential for chatbots and various other emerging tools. However, the company is gearing up to unveil a new approach to artificial intelligence at its Worldwide Developers Conference next month. Reports suggest that Apple’s strategy will focus on introducing proactive features to assist users in their daily lives.

Partnerships and Potential Collaborations

In its pursuit of advancing AI capabilities, Apple has engaged in discussions with potential partners such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google and OpenAI to procure generative AI services.
